Gujarat to go for value added mineral products
Gujarat has significant reserves with a variety of minerals like limestone, bauxite, lignite, dolomite, granite, in addition to chalk, china clay, fire clay, manganese, fluorspar, marble, bentonite and gypsum.
As reported, the raw materials were processed outside Gujarat and value-added products were coming back to Gujarat with higher rates. Following some representations in this regard, Government has advised GMDC to ascertain proper usage through the Mineral Policy. Further, in the recently announced policy, it has been decided to reserve the usage of lignite, limestone and manganese ore for GMDC. Thus, with a view to restricting outsourcing of value-added services, the State PSU – GMDC will try and stop valuable minerals going out of the State. For the purpose, it has been decided to register all mine holders, captive users, vendors and traders for identifying stakeholders. The new policy will enable GMDC to give value addition work to appropriate company.
This move, it is anticipated, would help ensuring proper use of minerals, bringing new industries in the State, which should also create employment opportunities. |
