A High Level Delegation from Singapore visits Gujarat

A 19 member business delegation led by Dr. Balaji Sadasivan, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Singapore visited Gujarat from 17th June – 20th June, 2008 with a view to enhancing the bilateral trade and industry relationship between the two countries. The visiting delegation met Hon’ble Chief Minister, Hon’ble Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Hon’ble Minister for Water Supply, Hon’ble Minister of State for Industries and senior officials of State government and held detailed discussions on the progress made and opportunities that the State offers in various  fields with a specific emphasis to the development of infrastructure. They were also invited to participate in the forthcoming event of Vibrant Gujarat : Global Investors’ Summit scheduled in January 2009. The visiting delegation comprised representatives from various sectors viz. building and construction, airport management, logistics, tourism, oil and gas, Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry etc. The delegation during their Gujarat visit also visited Mundra Port to oversee the facilities developed there. It is expected that this visit would go a long way in strengthening business relationships between Gujarat and Singapore.




World Bank Delegation visits Anand to study Amul Model

Impressed by the presentation made before the senior management of the World Bank in Washington DC by Shri BM Vyas, Managing Director, Gujarat Cooperation Milk Marketing Federation, the World Bank sent a 17 member delegation to study the Amul Model Impact and understand and explore the possibilities of the process of replication to empower farmers and develop dairy sector in African countries.  The delegation includes government officials, NGOs and cooperatives from Tanzania, Ethiopia and Uganda along with World Bank officials from Washington DC.




Ship-building Plant near Dahej planned

O P Jindal Group, as a part of their proposed India Maritime Technology Park (IMTP), plans to set up country’s first ship building and repair hub near Dahej in Gujarat.  Jindal Shipyards, a part of Jindal Infrastructure Transportation and Fabrication (J I T F), would undertake the initiative for the purpose. The facilities planned will manufacture various equipments required for ships, shipyards and ports and terminals in association with overseas partners. The first vessel from the facility is expected to roll out in 2010, the sources informed.

The proposed ship building facility is planned to be developed in three phases. In the first phase, facilities for assembling 15 vessels of 15,000 tonnes capacity each and 10 vessels of 5000 tonnes capacity each would be built with an investment of Rs.20,000 million, which would be gradually increased  and in the last phase, Panamex vessels (85,000 tonnes) would be made at this facility. The entire project is expected to be implemented in seven years.



Sejal Glass to set up float glass project at Jhagadia

Sejal Architectural Glass Limited, a Mumbai based glass processing house plans to set up a Rs.425 crore Float Glass manufacturing unit at Jhagadia in Bharuch district.  The project would have the installed capacity of 2,00,750 TPA and would be expected to start commercial production by March 2009, the company sources informed.




GIFT upgraded in terms of size

Enthused by the startling response from the investors, the size and scale of the ambitious project – Gujarat International Finance Tech City (GIFT) has been increased to 100 million square feet (msf). The MoUs for GIFT – a joint venture between state-run Gujarat Urban Development Corporation (GUDC) and IL & FS – have already crossed about 90 msf making the authorities to revisit and restructure the project. As informed by the sources, GIFT is expected to bring in about $ 60 billion of investment over a period of time.





Gems and Jewellery Park at  Bhavnagar

Government of Gujarat has planned to set up a Gems and Jewellery Park in Bhavnagar, for which the work of preparation of project report is assigned to  IL & FS. Estimated to cost Rs. 107 crore, the proposed park would be set up over 67,000 sq. yards of land at the premises of erstwhile  New Jahangir Mill and would house facilities for diamond cutting, trading, sorting, bruiting, marking, polishing and jewellery designing at par with international standards.  In addition, setting up of infrastructure like roads, water supply and drainage and parking facilities would also be ensured.  The project would offer employment to more than 45,000 people.




Pipavav Shipyard to build Patrol Vessels for Navy

Pipavav Shipyard, promoted by Skill Infrastructure and Punj Lloyd with stake by  several other companies,   is planning to build offshore patrol vessels for Navy. It is also interested in building other naval vessels, and for the purpose, the company is in the process of registering themselves with Indian Navy. The company is planning to join hands with one of the stakeholders – Sembcorp Marine, a global marine engineering and shipyard group. The company also plans to build commercial ships, offshore vessels, naval ships and a repair yard in their Gujarat facilities.
