So far 55 SEZs have been approved in Gujarat, of which 9 SEZs, it is reported, would be set up around Ahmedabad. It is informed that so far, three players have firmed up their plans to set up Logistic Park around Ahmedabad in more than 500 acres of land. There are around 100 warehouses around the city; however, there is a scarcity of constructed warehouses. Considering the fact that from the host of services viz. transportation, warehousing, freight forwarding, express cargo delivery, courier services, container services, shipping services, majority of the players offer merely one or two services. The upcoming Logistic Parks are aimed at housing additional amenities like parking space for trucks, residence for drivers, godowns to stock goods etc., the sources said. Further, visualizing that railways would be a major logistic player in the coming days, and with upcoming freight corridor being built between Delhi and Mumbai, for the goods transported to the nearby ports like Kandla and Mundra, Ahmedabad would apparently emerge as the transit centre. In addition, comparatively low cost of land and labour also have attracted players to select Ahmedabad and nearby areas. (Source: ET 20/08/08) |
